SHINING CITY – By Conor McPherson

A Richmond Premiere!

Nominated for two Tony Awards (2006), including Best Play.

Shining City is set in modern day Dublin, where a guilt-ridden man reaches out to a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. Wrestling with his own demons, the therapist can only do so much to help. What begins as just an unusual therapy session becomes a struggle that will shape and define both men for the rest of their lives–a struggle between the living and the dead. In this contemporary ghost story, Conor McPherson explores what it means to lose faith in God, in relationships and in one’s self.

A DOLL’S HOUSE – By Henrik Ibsen

Nora Helmer is a vibrant, young housewife who suffers from a crippling dependency on her husband. In order to save him from a dangerous debt and spare his pride, Nora arranges a loan without his knowledge by forging a signature. Through her actions, she wakes to feelings of self-awareness and in one of the most scandalous climaxes in all of nineteenth-century drama, Nora is forced to forge a new identity from the one she has always known. This fresh translation by Frank McGuiness was recently mounted on Broadway where it received the Tony Award for ‘Best Revival’.

Henley Street’s production of A Doll’s House is proud to be part of MINDSWIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts–The First Statewide celebration of women in the arts.

SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS –

By Carlo Goldoni

Irate fathers, thwarted lovers and mistaken identities!

Enter Truffaldino, a cheeky servant who confuses and confounds everyone around him by moonlighting for two masters. In doing so he pits himself against lovers, lawyers, mistresses and an empty stomach! This adaptation of Carlo Goldoni’s masterpiece is a cross between traditional Italian commedia dell’arte and postmodern vaudeville, offering lots of laughs, places in the script for ad-libs and audience participation! HSTC’s new Artistic Director, James Ricks, adapts and directs this high-octane winter slapstick.
